Delays

Been working on some other projects and haven’t quite finished the updates yet but it is in process. Hopefully after I get back from Imaging USA I’ll have some time to finish it up. Trying to hand code it all myself instead of using a template so it’s a bit more work than I was expecting.

Redesigning, again

I know it seems I like abandon the blog for months at a time and I guess I actually do but it’s not on purpose. With Facebook, Google+, Twitter, 500px, Flickr, Tumblr and this blog I get kind of overwhelmed and end up only updating one or two sites. Usually Facebook and G+. It’s like when I go to the store to buy something simple like shampoo and there’s 200 choices on the shelf my brain shuts down.

So the plan is to give my website a makeover as a central place to easily get to my social media sites and to reduce the number of those. I’ll probably scrap my Flickr and Linked In accounts at least. Hope to set an hour or two aside every week just to update the blog to try to keep some fresh content coming in but we see how that’s worked in the past.

Mandy and Nelson’s Wedding

Added a gallery of not really outtakes but just ones that were similar to the ones I uploaded for purchase to PicsCliq or were too small to print properly there.

I have to say that this was a super fun wedding to shoot. The weather was perfect, everyone had a great time and it was also my birthday. It makes a great birthday when you can spend it doing what you love to do.

Blogging

Ok, so I kind of failed at my weekly blogging attempt. I seem to be lucky to get a monthly one in. I am going to give it another go though. I have a couple ideas in mind to make myself update this more often. One of the things I plan on doing is instead of posting full galleries on my Facebook pages I’m going to start just posting a teaser image there, then post a few of my favorite images from a set here on the blog and then the full gallery will be posted on my Zenphoto galleries. That will give me more control over the quality of the images too since Facebook likes to compress the hell out of uploads unless you use the hi-res option but that is way too slow.

Also I’m finalizing my price list and services offered page so that will be live soon. I’ve registered for some seminars and workshops to get a better grip on the business end of photography so there’s a good chance the prices will change after I complete those. That’s a month or so off though.

Until next time remember…

Writing-blogging

I really want to start doing a weekly full blog post, not just a random post of a few sentences like I do currently. Biggest problem with the idea is that writing for me is almost as painful as public speaking. Back in my whiskey drinking days I used to fill up notebooks thinking I was going to be the next Bukowski. Those days are thankfully over and the notebooks are as about as coherent as any any other drunk twenty-something’s writings are. If you want to read something that bad just go pick up something by Jim Morrison. It’s been about thirteen years since I’ve really sat down and written something longer than a few paragraphs which is coincidentally about how long I’ve been an internet junkie. This could get interesting.

So anyway, now I need to come up with a consistent theme. The only thing I love as much as photography is music so I guess I’ll try to come up with articles that tie the two together. I’m setting myself a deadline of June 1st to come up with the first one. If you’re an English major try not to laugh too much at whatever I put up here.

Old meets new

Took the lens off an otherwise useless old Argus C3 and mounted it to a Nikon body cap to use as a macro lens on my D90. It loses the ability to focus other than physically moving the camera toward or away from the subject but other than that it works really well. Click photo for full size version.

Lazy days

Wish this was me fishing in the river but even that takes more energy than I’ve had lately. Fly Fishing the Roanoke River I was proud of myself for   summoning  the energy to take a walk along the greenway.

Facebook

I deleted my 4am Facebook page. I’m going to switch back to using MKMoorePhotography as my trade name. I started using the 4am name when I was also doing web design and some graphic design work. I haven’t done any of that in years and want to concentrate just on photography so I think the name change is a better fit. Not sure how to handle this page though. Probably just redirect mkmoorephotography.com here and change the logo I guess.
